How long does it take the Aloe Vera gel to heal sunburn that has turned skin darker?

This sunburn was peeling on my nose and the side of my forehead, and it made those areas dark so it was suggested that I use the Aloe Vera gel. I was wondering how long does it take to heal the parts that were peeling and turned darker and what is the most effective way to use it.
